Welding Classes in Toronto

Posted on February 28, 2016 by Institute of Technical Trades

According to industry trend-watchers, about 15% of Canadian workers are heading towards retirement year after year. This is happening primarily because of ageing demographics, and its prevalent across the country. The effects on industry are already apparent – and most apparent are the labor shortages in the skilled trades sector. In fact, in some industries, labour shortages have become quite the challenge. To better address these trends, and to better meet the imminent needs of industry, the Institute of Technical Trades (ITT) offers welding classes in Toronto, where future welders can find training programs that will set the stage for a career.

While ITT provides training for new welders seeking new careers, there is also continuing education training for welders who want to upgrade their skills and knowledge. Welding classes in Toronto are designed to provide a comprehensive training program which includes blueprint reading, blueprint theory, and welding processes. This is training that's intended to prepare welders for the numerous industries where skilled welders are in short supply. Some of these industries include building construction; pipeline assembly; boat building; and manufacturing in general.

Once they are fully trained, ITT welders are well-equipped to fill the needs of industry. But importantly, ITT trains welders to be highly skilled and proficient. The curriculum is standards-based, and encompasses both theory work and practical skills development. ITT welding classes in Toronto are in depth – the training is interactive – the instruction is systematic – and students are engaged in 15 different welding processes. The ITT teaching staff is highly qualified, bringing years of relevant welding experience to the programming.

When the training program has been fully completed, ITT welders are “ready to work”. But beyond training, licensing is also part of the program. Licensing and certification at ITT is under the auspices of the Technical Standards and Safety Authority and/or the Canadian Welding Bureau. And officially, the training facility is recognized as a Test Centre for both TSSA and CWB.

ITT is more than just training and skills development - it’s about a serious commitment to learning; it's about a quality level education; and it's about student support while being trained. Welding classes in Toronto are quite wide-ranging - from basic “entry-level” - to more progressive skills upgrading - to the highly advanced levels. Programming is designed to best meet a student's needs, whether that student is emerging or advanced. But all training is focused on providing leading-edge skills development in a learning environment with the most advanced and modern technology.

ITT has been in the training business for approximately four decades, and has established itself as one of the nation’s leading welding schools. Success is a direct result of meeting each student's needs, reflecting those needs in the teaching curriculum, and addressing the needs of industry as best as possible. The school is known throughout Canada for quality education and training excellence. For welding classes in Toronto, programs are based on a committed philosophy:

The ITT Certified Testing Centre

The Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certifies structural welders. The Institute of Technical Trades is recognized as an official Certified Testing Centre, where tests are offered on a schedule of every two weeks. All testing requires student to advance book.

For those welders needing to renew active licenses, an expired license must be presented to the Testing Centre so that it can be validated. In general, testing results from the ITT Testing Centre are valid for 2 years (this time period includes CWB and TSSA).

Testing for the Technical Standards and Safety Authority is offered during the business week (from Monday through Friday). Advanced booking is required, and test applicants must meet all of the required criteria and guidelines in order to be tested.

Right across Canada, the job potential for welders is promising. In many industrial sectors, working welders have been well-educated and highly trained – they have gainful employment, and enjoy full time salaried positions, or well-paid regular jobs.

Overall, most working welders are considered well paid, with stable employment positions, and with good future prospects. Long term, the need for skilled welders is ever-growing, and ITT is well positioned to train the workers for the future.

The Institute of Technical Trades is fully registered as a private career college, under the regulations of the Private Career Colleges Act.
